Religious Distribution
As shown on the pie chart above, Roman Catholicism and Catholicism are the most dominant religions in Western Europe. The other dominant religions include Protestantism and Agnosticism. The reason for such a large population either following Catholicism, Protestantism, and Agnosticism are due to the fact that the Reformation in the 16th century divided Christians in Western Europe into Catholics and Protestants. Roman Catholicism was the main religion before the Reformation, which is why there is still a dominant population today. The reason that some are agnostic is due to the historical epidemics of diseases such as the plague and smallpox which took place in this region. During this time period, many lost faith in God after failing to see any improvements in health after tons of praying. In conclusion, Western Europe is religiously diverse.
Religious Distribution & Current Issues:
As mentioned above, Catholicism, Protestantism, and Agnosticism are the dominating religions today due to the Reform and epidemics that have occurred in this region throughout history. Catholicism and Protestantism were the result of the division of the main religion ,which was Roman Catholicism. Then, the epidemics of smallpox and the plague resulted in faltering faith after prayers didn't seem to improve conditions. Now, moving forward to the current situation, the ban of the "burqa" in France in 2011 and fights to incorporate Sharia law are resulting in conflicts with the Muslim population in Western Europe. Despite Muslims being successful in society, they are poorly integrated into society and most Muslim neighborhoods have reported higher crime rates. However, this hasn't reduced the Muslim population. In fact, more and more people are migrating to Western Europe due to the stable economy at the moment and the jobs available. In fact, Western Europe has the highest concentration of Muslims in Europe.
